The Generalist Engineer
The Generalist Engineer on Substack. Written by two Software Engineers, Daniel Garcia y Alberto Romero (who have worked on multiple startups for the last 7-8 years).
In recent years, we have worked for various startups in different stages, but the most exciting part seems to have been more in the early stages. Daniel Garcia has been on two occasions, the first hire, and he has learned a lot about this "Generalist/Founding Engineer" role that’s become a trend on recruitment sites in the past years.
But what does this role mean? And what is the difference between a “Software engineer” and a “Generalist/Founding engineer”? Those are the questions we have gone through, so we want to share what we have learned (and are still learning) about this role.
What to expect:
Frameworks and Methodologies to become more efficient in the role.
Practical tips from founding engineers and technical co-founders across the industry.
Learn how other startups create their products from scratch and iterate and validate their ideas in the market.
Tools and fantastic products: technology is moving very fast and how we as engineers can take advantage of these new technologies without sacrificing speed or momentum is critical for early-stage startups; remember, you don't need to build the wheel again
Find cool startups, and who knows, maybe join their teams? We are always happy to make referrals.
